Mohamed AbdelSalam Nurein is a professor in human anatomy, obtained his MBBS in the College of Medicine, University of Juba, MSc human anatomy in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum and his PhD in human and clinical anatomy, the field of neuroimaging in temporal lobe epilepsy, College of Graduate, Ribat National University. He also obtained MSc in diagnostic ultrasound in the College of Radiography, Sudan University. He had joint the school of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in the University of Sheffield, UK as an honorable research fellow in the academic clinical psychiatry Sheffield Cognition and Neuroimaging Lab (SCANLab) where he participated in structural MRI of the brain in patients with schizophrenia.
Currently he is the dean College of Medicine Bayan University. His career as teaching staff started in the College of Medicine University of Juba before South Sudan being another country. He stepped the ladder starting from teaching assistant till he reached assistant professor. After separation of south Sudan he joined the College of Medicine in Karary University as head department of anatomy and head of the curriculum committee. He has been involved in designing a curriculum for MSc program in human anatomy in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jazeera, as well as curricula of a number of medical schools in Sudan.
Regarding his teaching experience prof. Nurein is one of the eminent neuroanatomy teachers in Sudan. He is the author of a neuroanatomy book named (Synopsis of Human Neuroanatomy for Medical Students ISBN 978-99988-0-058-8). Moreover he is the coordinator of human nervous system module in the College of Medicine Karary University and Bayan University. In addition to neuroanatomy he also involved in teaching of histology and he is the author of a book named (Outlines of Anatomy for Allied Medical Sciences ISBN 978-99988-0-845-4)
Prof Nurein has worked previously in the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation (SCOT) as coordinator in organ transplant program. SCOT is the official center in the Saudi Arabia which works in cadaveric organ donation program in coordination with Kuwait renal transplant center. He also invited to Oman Medical College for a remedial course in neurobiology.
With regards to NGOs activities Prof Nurein has been effectively involved in autism organization in Sudan. He is the director of
Aydi La Tamil (ALT) organization for autism. This organization deals with raising the capacities of autistic children in the fields of communication and sensory integration. ALT also deals with training of parents and family members of autistic children and staff members who worked with autistics as well as community awareness about special educational needs children
